February 28, 2012At first I dony like my works when they reveal a part of myself that I am uncomfortable with, now I like them best. That is, now that I have made friends with my ugly, rude, brash, awkward, frightened self.
A woman in my grad art class said “I love it when crits turn into therapy sessions.”
“Really?” I said “I hate it when crits turn into therapy sessions.” I may be the professor but I am not a qualified professional.

March 2, 2012I live on twelve acres in the woods and am constantly inspired with the natures forms. Many are the basis for my paintings. Once I found a liken that looked just like something on a coral reef.So cool! Thanks for sharing!

Cool that you put me in mind of velocity occurring around it… and then also the ribbon candy my toothless great grandma Kate always had stashed — also Great Aunt Helen’s pile of cigarettes, cut in half so she could sneak the smoke faster. Ah yes organic forms, inescapable.

March 1, 2012Very cool. It wouldn’t have hurt the fish, though. They would probably have loved it. A lot of fish like to find shelter in downed trees, etc. This would be like a deluxe fish hotel.

March 2, 2012As an individual with forty-five years experience in marketing, I found the “Heading Line” well done. It caught my attention that the object was actually a “found” object. A part of “space ship from another world?” Perhaps an important part of “a gamma ray from a lost government project?” The piece certainly brings more questions than answers. A great piece of art……. without question.

March 4, 2012Isn’t that funny how things work out..I’m a photographer and I take a lot of images – but ‘my rule’ is…never throw any image away – no matter how bad I think it is. I find that over time the images that catch my attention most often are those I considered not so great (at the time they were taken). Its all about perspective and ‘where we are’ at the moment. If nothing else these works can serve as a jumping off point and can take us in a completely different direction.

I, too, hate my work at first glance after I have completed it. Many of my pieces never see the light of day until weeks or even months after I have signed them. Sometimes I add a stroke or two that really finishes it for me, sometimes just looking at them from a different perspective makes all the difference.
