…but didn’t want to hurt any fish. So, I just let it sit, and when I came back, I kind of liked it. “It” is the latest in a series of abstract works based on organic form. Here are some photos.

At first I dony like my works when they reveal a part of myself that I am uncomfortable with, now I like them best. That is, now that I have made friends with my ugly, rude, brash, awkward, frightened self.
A woman in my grad art class said “I love it when crits turn into therapy sessions.”
“Really?” I said “I hate it when crits turn into therapy sessions.” I may be the professor but I am not a qualified professional.
I live on twelve acres in the woods and am constantly inspired with the natures forms. Many are the basis for my paintings. Once I found a liken that looked just like something on a coral reef.So cool! Thanks for sharing!

An alliance between kelp and coral, pushing out and pulling back in? Cool that you put me in mind of velocity occurring around it… and then also the ribbon candy my toothless great grandma Kate always had stashed — also Great Aunt Helen’s pile of cigarettes, cut in half so she could sneak the smoke faster. Ah yes organic forms, inescapable.
It looks like you are making progress! I am interested to hear more about your process, did you intend the drips (I like drips). I wonder what would happen if you allowed more space between the shapes.
The Hook said what I wanted to say – “A very cool creation.” I would love to see this on a pedistal out in a park somewhere, as a public art piece. Congrats on being Freshly Pressed!
Very cool. It wouldn’t have hurt the fish, though. They would probably have loved it. A lot of fish like to find shelter in downed trees, etc. This would be like a deluxe fish hotel.
looks like coral π i think that its a really cool design, I’m glad that you didn’t throw it in the creek π i think it looks nice next to the water, its like an overflow of nature
I am not really sure what are those stuffs, yet I have enjoyed seeing those abstract photos..You did the right decision, you can really hurt those aquatic creatures if you’ll throw it into the creek:-)
I often have to walk away from a piece in order to reset my eyes to see beyond the niggling details to see the work as a whole. Your work is interesting. It makes me want to look again.
I always hate my artworks at some stage. It’s that emotion though that pushes me to break through and bring out the truth in what I am trying to express. A cranky scrabble to make it “right”.
I really like your sculpture, I’m glad you didn’t throw it in the creek π
As an individual with forty-five years experience in marketing, I found the “Heading Line” well done. It caught my attention that the object was actually a “found” object. A part of “space ship from another world?” Perhaps an important part of “a gamma ray from a lost government project?” The piece certainly brings more questions than answers. A great piece of art……. without question.

That beast of circularity is quite fetching. Right on.
Your artwork would do great wonders if you added some functionality in it…eh… add a glass top and some chairs with similar concept….It would be interesting if it actually sells….
I love it…as I look at it longer I appreciate it more! It prompted me to read ABOUT and look at your other creations! Very interesting……I design art cards and prints from my photography and digital designs, too. I think I will post some of the many cards that have never been put on my website, for sale, to see if they are more popular than my selections! Congrats on being freshly pressed!!!
Really interesting piece. I have the same problem with my artwork – the more I stare at it, the less I like it. But usually when I come back later, I find myself thinking, “oh, it’s not so bad.” What materials do you use for your sculptures? I really like their “dripping” quality.
Amazing! This totally reminds me of the chick in ‘The Vow’ who created abstract art and built wonderful pieces. How inspiring! You are a work of art. π
Isn’t that funny how things work out..I’m a photographer and I take a lot of images – but ‘my rule’ is…never throw any image away – no matter how bad I think it is. I find that over time the images that catch my attention most often are those I considered not so great (at the time they were taken). Its all about perspective and ‘where we are’ at the moment. If nothing else these works can serve as a jumping off point and can take us in a completely different direction.
Thanks for sharing!

I’ve noticed that many times upon first look, I may not like something, but after awhile you begin to see the beauty in the lines and form and specific things and then you realize what a thing of beauty it really is.
Great piece. I like it indoors as well, per your next post. Thats where it belongs, not with the fish. π Though I could see fish taking it over and becoming a kind of waterlife sanctuary.
I feel the same way about my writing.. At first I want to throw it in the creek, but I let it sit for a day and I start to see the beauty in it. Fun piece.
Thanks for not throwing it into a natural area, being yet another polluter–but instead appreciating the forms and its beauty for what it is! π Keep up the good work, and keep on cleanin’ up our beautiful home–it’s the only one we’ve got!
I think it’s way cool! Although, if you threw it in the creek – with the edges having “fingers” seen in the 3rd and 4th pictures, maybe you’d spear enough fish for a fantastic fish fry! Glad it grew on you and so glad you shared it with us!
I, too, hate my work at first glance after I have completed it. Many of my pieces never see the light of day until weeks or even months after I have signed them. Sometimes I add a stroke or two that really finishes it for me, sometimes just looking at them from a different perspective makes all the difference.
I’m glad you kept it, thank you for sharing and Congrats! on being Fresh Pressed.
